Q: How much gear oil do I use with this cover?
A: The Bombshell is designed to use the same amount of gear oil as your stock cover. Please consult your vehicle's owners' manual to determine the correct amount of oil to use, as the amount may differ depending on equipment. For example, most Dana 44's with open differentials take 2 quarts of fluid, while those with the Jeep Rubicon electric locker typically take around 1.3 quarts. Just remember that the fill hole on the Bombshell is NOT placed at the full level, so do not rely on it as the full level indicator. It is intentionally placed higher than the fill hole on the stock cover, for those owners who have either tilted their pinion upward and/or would like to intentionally over-fill their diff fluid.
Q: What brand or weight of gear oil should I use?
A: Different differentials and lockers require different grades of oil. We will defer to your vehicle or locker manufacturer's reccomendation of what oil to use. Consult your owners manuals or call the manufacturer.
Q: Do I need to use a differential cover gasket?
A: With the machined mating surface of the Bombshell, the use of a gasket is optional. It will seal properly with only a bead of silicone sealant, if correctly applied. That's why we include a tube of sealant, making this a complete kit. Alternatively you may use a gasket if you prefer.
Q: Will the Bombshell work with my aftermarket suspension system?
A: Poison Spyder Bombshell Diff Covers are not compatible with some aftermarket suspension systems whose track bar mounts or other components attach to the diff cover bolts, such as those manufactured by Skyjacker and Full Traction. The recessed bolt head design of the Bombshell interferes with these systems.
